Knight in Shining Armour... and a great day of golf at Strandhill

The par three 6th at Mulranny
(green to tee and ocean beyond)
A doff of the cap, a nod of the head, a smile and a thank you... whatever way you want to play it, a big congratulations to Strandhill Golf Club. Next Sunday (March 30th) the club is hosting an Open Fourball Rumble with all proceeds going to Mulranny Golf Club.

If you don't already know, Mulranny was battered by the February storms. Set on the picturesque Clew Bay, the Atlantic whipped thousands of rocks onto the golf course, covering fairways and ripping away the sea defences.

The damage was severe (as it was elsewhere) but Mulranny began a #SaveMulranny campaign, asking clubs around Ireland to host a competition to raise funds for repair work. The target is €150,000. You can donate as well (follow the link and hit the Donate button halfway down the page).

Strandhill was well ahead of the curve, jumping in before the campaign had even started. The Rumble is open to all with a €10 entry fee. It's cracking value to play one of the best hidden gems in Ireland, and you will be helping to return the lovely Mulranny to its former glories. There will also be a raffle, so if anyone can donate free fourballs this will increase the pot going to Mulranny.

To enter, call call 0719168188 or register via brs.

Finally, if there's any kind of influence you can bring to bear at your club to host something similar, please do. Mulranny deserves to be saved and, one day, perhaps you can look back and say that you helped to save a golf course.
