Royal County Down - Inspiring The Soul (Part 1)

Royal County Down on a November morning. I have yet to play this Irish links royalty outside the autumn/winter months, but there are no temporary greens here, no mats to play off and no lifting the ball from the fairway and placing it in the rough. No, here it's just the links as the heavens and the likes of Old Tom Morris intended you to play it.

I shall write a more detailed blog in due course - David's eagle on the par five 1st deserves no less - but for now, the following images should inspire the soul.
You'll have to forgive my name appearing on the photographs - but a few sites have been 'borrowing' my images.

The par five 1st, sweeps gently left

The devilish par four 3rd from the back tees

Four Canadian professionals tee off (right) on the par three 7th. From the
forward tees it's 90 yards... possibly the trickiest surface to find and hold.
Royal County Down - Inspiring The Soul (Part 2) is here.

  1. Played a couple of days after yourself as part of a tour. RCD blew my mind, played in a cold, sunny and very windy day. The course was in great condition, the forward tees were balanced off by some tricky pin positions I thought. Green complexes there are amazing.
