Rathsallagh Resurrected... in Golf Photos

Rathsallagh Golf Club, in Co. Wicklow, closed 'for good' last year. Cue much gnashing of teeth... in this household anyway. And then came word that the course had been purchased and was going to re-open. Cue much work, cutting of hay, revitalising of bunkers and greens, and the search for members.

Turns out they didn't have to look far! The course re-opens today, Wednesday 1st June. The green fee today is €16. Usual green fees will be €35-€40. Their Open Week is August 20th-28th. Their website is www.rathsallaghgolf.com

Here are some photos from last Sunday. Great to see it in such excellent shape - get

Golf Photography and the Copyright Conundrum

No, I’m not happy about it, but you get used to it because there’s no failsafe any more. You can kick up a fuss but it’s probably not going to get you anywhere. Once you put something on the Internet, it’s there to be used by anyone else – be it words or music or imagery – no matter what copyright gets trampled over.

My photographs have often been ‘borrowed’ . I’ve seen them on travel company websites promoting Irish golf holidays, on Twitter & Facebook, and Irish golf course websites. None of them credit me… which explains why I now insert my copyright so blatantly. It used to be along the bottom but it was too easy to cut off. Now there's a risk that it interferes with the image itself.

Galway Bay Golf Club - The Good Photos

View over the 3rd green to the rest of the course.
Taken at 7.30am
The Thursday and Friday of last week weren't the best for photography, but Saturday picked up and the sun burned down on Galway Bay's fairways and greens for close to 10 hours.

Here are a few photos that show off the course. Drop by and play it. It's well worth your time and approach shots to greens are stunning.

Galway Bay Golf Resort - Photoshoot

The start of a four day photoshoot at Galway Bay Golf Resort didn't get off to the best start. The welcome was grand, the tour of the facilities with the head greenkeeper (Damien) was enlightening and I was given a fully charged buggy to get me around the place. So far so good...

... it was only the weather that wasn't playing ball. Friday morning has proved no better. I hope in the coming days to get the weather that shows off this course to its best effect. At the moment (assuming you trust weather forecasts, tomorrow looks like it should be a cracker. Sunrise at 6.50am.
