As winter crawls into view, the weather
keeping some of the unfriendlier temperatures at bay, golfers begin to
reconsider their golfing priorities. Some reach for the woollen jumpers, the bobble
hats and hand warmers; others reach for the remote having allowed their clubs
to slip quietly into hibernation.
Golf clubs around the country know that
their green fee income will be dropping drastically in the coming months. And,
to be fair, courses prone to frost and heavy downpours could do with a lighter
footfall - to protect the course and to allow the greenskeepers to get out and implement maintenance programmes.
But clubs still run particular events and
competitions to keep things ticking over, and they start promoting rates and
packages for next year as well. One such club is the Ballesteros course at The
Heritage.

the hotel) to make it an excellent venue. Why not see if you can tempt some of
your group to take a lesson at the resort’s ‘Natural Golf School’ beforehand.

use before the outing) and complimentary golf at the outing itself.

are a number of two bedroom self catering apartments, with plenty of space
for storing golf clubs.

Upgrades
A significant bunker
programme began in November, with all bunkers
to be brought back to full playability. They will also drain better in times of torrential rain. If you've played there, you'll appreciate the number of bunkers involved and, therefore, the scale of the work required.

I gave my dad a present of a half-day Short Game lesson a few years back - rather convenient since I tagged along to keep him company. It was an interesting day and it worked better for him than for me - but that's another story - and this is still something you can do. Check out all the various 'lesson' options. Frankly, given the opportunity, I think I'd book the dedicated 'father & son' package at this stage.
